Have Faith: A Miracle Attributed to Kathleen

It’s always nice to receive a letter from someone telling their story of how Kathleen has helped them. The letter I recently received came from Mandy from County Dublin who, along with her mother, has a great devotion to Kathleen. For years now she was always in touch with us and as I had not heard from her for some time I sensed something was wrong. Then the letter came, Mandy wrote, “Dear Victor, I am so sorry I haven’t got to write to you as my poor Mum has been in hospital since September. The Doctor’s called myself and my brothers to the hospital and told us Mum hadn’t long to live. After that, I didn’t hear what the Doctor’s said, I just started to pray to little Kathleen as I held my Mother’s hand. I remembered Br. Conway saying to Kathleen, ‘If people ask you for something, would you go to God and ask God for them.’ And Kathleen said she might be afraid to go to God, but she would ask the Virgin Mary to ask God for her.

In my prayers I said, Please Kathleen ask Our Mother to let my mum live. I fell asleep holding my Mum’s hand. As I slept I could see the face of Kathleen as she placed her hands on my Mum. The next thing I remember is a nurse shaking me to wake me up. Tears were rolling down my face. I said to Mum, ‘You have come back to us.’

I made a promise to Kathleen then and there that I will go to Kathleen’s grave this summer to say the biggest thank you from my Mum and me. I will bring with me two white roses, one from my Mum and one from me, tied with blue ribbon and little pebbles from the beach at Dún Laoghaire where Mum and I walked.”

We don’t think Mandy has ever been to Kathleen’s grave and her Mum and herself are so devoted to Kathleen that she received a mention in our latest film, How We Made The Kathleen Kilbane Films.

Some years ago I remember her telling us this little story; It was on the 8th of September, Our Lady’s birthday and also Kathleen’s and Mandy went into the Chapel and placed flowers at the feet of Our Holy Mother, lit two candles, one for Mary and one for Kathleen, and wished them both a Happy Birthday. It is the simple things Our Holy Mother and Kathleen love best. Teach us to be humble, Dear Lord.
